​Tahitian pearls come in a range of colors from white to black with various undertones and overtones of green, pink, blue, silver and yellow. Second only to classic white, black pearls are the most popular type of pearl. Although they are commonly referred to as black, the pearls have a wide range of colors and tones. The colors occur naturally in Tahitian and are the result of a permanent dye process in the case of akoya and freshwater.
