A Year-Round Destination
. May to October “dry season,” the weather is slightly cooler and less rain

Which French Polynesian Islands are calling you?

The ability to live in the moment and immerse yourself in the beauty of your surroundings: a warm tropical breeze ... a technicolor sunset ... dazzling fish flitting through coral blooms ... the taste of fresh coconut and pineapple ... a guitar strumming a Tahitian song ... the gentle lapping of the waves. This is where you want to be for rejuvenation, romance and adventure!
Tahiti Is The Largest Island
in the Tahiti archipelago, known as French Polynesia, whether snorkeling in a turquoise lagoon or surfing along a black-sand beach, hiking to a waterfall, settling into your hammock, or marveling at the colors of the Papeete Market and at the agility of traditional dancers, there's a mix of culture, adventure, and indulgence you'll discover! Lodging is often more affordable in Tahiti than on neighboring islands.

Tahiti: a bustling cultural experience including art, shopping, and food
No matter where you’re coming from, your international flight into French Polynesia is likely to land at the airport in Papeete, the French Polynesian capital city on the northwest coast of Tahiti. The island is the economic and cultural hub of the country and its most populous; it’s home to more than two-thirds of the population.

Relative to the other islands, Tahiti is bustling. Yes, you’ll encounter traffic here. Expect large hotels with the nameplates of global brands.
Vsitors will find specific pleasures in Tahiti: Art fans will pay a pilgrimage to the island for its Musée Gauguin and historical connection to the painter Paul Gaugin, who escaped the bustle of Europe for these shores. (Gaugin, it should be noted, made his works through the problematic lens of colonialism and also had predatory sexual relationships with young Tahitian girls.) Shoppers will delight in the municipal market—Le Marché—which dates back to the 1800s, a central place to score Tahitian products and produce just a block from the waterfront. Don’t miss a stop to Papeete’s food trucks, or roulottes, which rendezvous at Vaiete Square, dishing up large portions in a lively atmosphere of residents and visitors alike.

TAHITIAN Tatoos

Did you know the tattoo art form was invented in Polynesia? (where Europeans first encountered it)  Today many Polynesians sport beautiful works of art as symbols of their identities.

The Tahitian Pearl, The Black Pearl

Pearlparadise.com
Tahitian pearls come in a range of colors from white to black with various undertones and overtones of green, pink, blue, silver and yellow. Second only to classic white, black pearls are the most popular type of pearl. Although they are commonly referred to as black, the pearls have a wide range of colors and tones. The colors occur naturally in Tahitian and are the result of a permanent dye process in the case of akoya and freshwater. Most valuable are the darker variety, as the naturally dark tones of the Tahitian pearls is a unique quality among pearls.

  • A true black Tahitian pearl is extremely rare, and largely considered one of the most beautiful kinds of pearls in the world.

  • Most Tahitian pearls that are identified as “black” are actually charcoal grey, silver, or dark green. Because of their darker hues, Tahitian pearls are commonly known as "black pearls."

  • An advantage of the Tahitian pearl is that the oyster inside of which they grow is quite large, sometimes weighing up to ten pounds. This means a Tahitian pearl can easily grow to a larger-than-average size.

  • The cultured Tahitian pearl comes in various shapes, sizes, and colors; shapes include round, semi-round, button, circle, oval, teardrop, semi-baroque and baroque

  • With variety in shapes and colors, the Tahitian pearl has been known to fit in any jewelry setting.

  • The versatility and mixture of color give it its value.
