Boiling Lake (UNESCO)
The world’s second-largest hot springs attraction, worth the hike! Not for the faint-hearted, this hike is around six hours, and geared to experienced hikers or families with tweens and teens. The trek to the lake is 8 miles, usually reached after 3-4 hour hard hike one way. The flooded fumarole, lake is filled with bubbling blue-gray water usually surrounded by a cloud of vapor, 200 feet/60m across and depth remains a mystery. Freshwater Lake Nature Trail An elevation of 762m above sea level, this natural trail gives some of the best views across the largest lake on the island. At the top, admire breathtaking views and listen to sounds of hundreds of hummingbirds keeping you company. Snorkeling Volcanic vents releasing warm bubbles (like champagne) into the sea, dramatic vertical walls created by submerged volcanic craters, slope with shelves of colourful coral and sponges, tropical fish and critters. TIP: Our secret place to have a proposal...tie that ring up so you don't lose it, but picture your proposal in champagne bubbles! Be still my heart! Don't forget the underwater camera! Purple Turtle Beach Relax along this sandy brown beach and enjoy Dominica’s authentic cuisine. The Purple Turtle Beach is an ideal spot for mooring, family picnics, beach parties, sun tanning, swimming and group gatherings! Kalinago Territory The largest group of indigenous people in the Caribbean with over 3,000 inhabitants. Families can visit the Carib model village by the sea, try traditional Kalinago cuisine, make and purchase traditional art & craft. A fantastic, fun, educational day. Indian River Safari Perfect for couples and families(all ages). Scenes from “Pirates of the Caribbean” filmed along this river. Boat rides for all ages and the best opportunity to view the river’s wildlife. Did I mention the Bush Bar at the end of the river! Mero beach What would a family holiday be without a day at the beach? The black-sand beach on the west coast of the island has public bathrooms, food and beverage service, one of the few beaches on the island to have these amenities. The waters are placid and gorgeous for easy dips. Near Roseau, it's popular and easy to get to. Jeep Safari Tour This 3-hour jeep tour of Dominica- gives a great snapshot of the island. Kids get excited when the open-air vehicle stops to meet the national parrot at the botanical gardens. Adults love the rum punch and fresh fruit at the end of the tour. See hidden waterfalls, a great half-day experience in nature. Children 4+. |
Whale watching (& dolphin)
Spend at least one-afternoon whale watching. Dominica is home to at least six different species of cetaceans, including Sperm Whales, Humpback Whales, and Short-fin Pilot Whales. A perfect groups trip, we offer whale watching trips, must book ahead, was Sunday & Wednesdays with complimentary fruit juices and rum punch on the return journey. River tubing Small rapids, mild current, make River Tubing through Hibiscus Falls a unique experience. Groups can wade down the river taking in the natural beauty of the island. As you approach Hibiscus Village, you're greeted with a traditional performance by the Carib Indian cultural group. This is something not to miss! Emerald Pool Nature Trail Fed by clear mountain water rushing from a 40-foot/12m waterfall, the pool’s waters appear emerald green in the leafy, filtered sunlight. A short 15-minute easy hike, and totally worth it for the Kodak moments! Titou Gorge The name means “Little Throat” and gets its name from the lava that cooled and split open, resulting in a cave. Groups can float and flop their way to a waterfall highlighted with canopy light above. This 5-minute swim-only is peaceful and memorable. Another unique proposal site and where Pirates of the Caribbean was filmed! Roseau Walking Tour Learn about the unique Caribbean architectural styles and historic significance of many of Roseau’s important building. Take a visit to the Old Market where crafts and souvenirs, as well as fresh fruit and vegetables, can be purchased from the locals. Botanical Gardens Nestled about 50 metres from the Roseau river, the 40-acre Botanical Gardens is the largest semi-open space in the city of Roseau. In the garden is an aviary that houses Sisserou parrots, the national bird of Dominica. An idyllic setting for cricket matches, national parades and cultural celebrations throughout the year. Fort Shirley / Cabrits National Park This is your most historical building stop from the war era. An English colonial fort at the Cabrits Historical and Marine Park, an interpretation centre that preserves remnants of the islands tumultuous history, Fort Shirley with great stories for for sharing. Chocolate Lover's Experience The Bois Cotlette estate is a popular must stop! For 290 years, the estate has worked to perfect the craft of producing cocoa, sugar cane and coffee. The Chocolate Experience tour offers a behind-the-scene work producing their signature chocolates. A chocolate lover’s paradise. (a great ports of call adventure) |
