Not one traffic light on Lanai: And that’s how the people of Lanai like it! Only nine miles from Maui yet a world away, Lanai can feel like two places. The first is found in the two luxurious resorts where you can indulge in world-class amenities and championship-level golf. The other is found bouncing along the island’s rugged back-roads in a 4-wheel drive. There is no direct service to Lanai from the mainland. Instead, you will fly to Honolulu International Airport or Kahului Airport in Maui, where you can connect to several local airlines with service to Lanai Airport. Otherwise, there is regular ferry service from Lahaina in Maui to Manele Harbor on Lanai’s southern coast.
Staying on Lanai:
Like most of the islands, the weather on Lanai is pleasant and drier than most. Lanai City sits at nearly 1,700 feet, where the warmest months reach about 72º F. So you may want a light jacket. Temperatures at the beaches are usually about 10º to 12º higher.
Traveling on Lanai:
With no bus system, your transportation options on the island are limited to resort shuttles and rental cars, so make reservations in advance. To get a real sense of the island, rent a four-wheel-drive vehicle and experience everything Lanai has to offer.
There are two hotels on Lanai:
The Four Seasons Resort Lanai at Manele Bay and the Four Seasons Lana'i, the Lodge at Koele. From the stunning views atop the pine-lined Munro Trail to watching the acrobatic Spinner dolphins from the Hulopoe Bay Tidal Pools, Lanai is a special place where you’ll find serenity, adventure, and intimacy.
Lanai City:
Originally built in the 1920’s, this plantation town once revolved around Lanai’s pineapple industry. Today, this charming, small-town community is home to the majority of Lanai’s residents.
Spinner dolphins can be found almost every day along Lana'i protected southern coast. From December thru April, Humpback Whales can be seen breaching, tail slapping and even nursing their calves in the lee of Lana'i coast. Come join a Trilogy Marine Mammal Naturalist on this exciting and informative adventure! This excursion is offered only from December thru April.
